Youth Symposium on Healthcare Careers

Duke Health is excited to offer an enhanced learning opportunity for high school students in June 2025. The Youth Symposium on Healthcare Careers, sponsored by Duke University Health System Volunteer Services, provides students with valuable insights into various healthcare professions. This engaging program is designed to inspire and educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The event will occur on the following dates at two locations: Duke Regional Hospital in Durham and Duke Raleigh Hospital, a campus of Duke University Hospital in Raleigh. Participants must be 16 or 17 years old (16 years old by June 24, 2025), attend both days at their selected location, and stay for the entire event.

  • Durham Dates: June 24 & June 25, 2025
  • Raleigh Dates: June 25 & June 26, 2025

This unique opportunity will give you an inside look at a variety of healthcare professions, directly from the experts. You’ll explore hospital facilities, gain valuable skills through hands-on CPR training, and participate in career-focused activities designed to give you a real feel for what it’s like to work in healthcare. Plus, you’ll earn 14 volunteer hours and a certificate of completion to add to your resume or college applications.

Application Process

  • The Application (to be completed by the student) and Participation Agreement (to be completed by a parent or legal guardian) will be available beginning at 8 pm on Friday, April 11.

  • Both the Application and the Participation Agreement must be submitted by 8 pm on Monday, April 14, 2025.
  • No late or incomplete submissions will be accepted.

Students will be notified via email by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, on whether they have been accepted into the program.

Space is limited to 25 slots in Durham and 25 slots in Raleigh. Due to these limitations, not everyone who applies will be able to participate.
