Pediatric Cardiology
Our pediatric heart surgeons pioneer new surgical techniques that lower risk and ensure heart surgery is better tolerated by the tiniest babies. We are the #4 pediatric cardiology and heart surgery program in the U.S. because we've achieved some of the highest survival rates in the country in very sick newborns and children with congenital and acquired heart disease.

CAR T-Cell Therapy 
Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is a personalized immunotherapy that uses re-engineered versions of your cells to find and fight cancer cells. Duke was the first center in North Carolina to provide FDA-approved CAR-T therapy. We remain at the forefront of the field and offer treatment options not available at other centers.

Stem Cell Transplants Using Bone Marrow, Blood, and Umbilical Cord Blood 
Choosing Duke as your transplant center puts you in good hands. We are one of the few U.S. programs using stem cell transplantation as part of the treatment plan for scleroderma (systemic sclerosis). We also treat sickle cell disease and blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.

Gene Therapy for Sickle Cell Disease
Duke Health offers a new, FDA-approved gene therapy that can help alleviate severe pain and other serious complications associated with sickle cell disease. Duke was actively involved in clinical trials for this revolutionary new treatment, which is similar to stem cell transplantation using donor cells (allogeneic) but does not require a bone marrow donor and is not associated with many of the potential complications of stem cell transplantation.

Gene Therapy for Inherited Retinal Diseases
Duke is one of 15 centers in the U.S. using gene therapy to halt or reverse vision loss from inherited retinal diseases. Our team, which includes inherited retinal disease specialists, genetic counselors, retinal surgeons, and others, accurately diagnoses inherited retinal diseases and determines if this treatment is appropriate for you or your child.
