Cancer and its treatment can have short- and long-term effects on how you look and feel. Adapting to these changes is an important part of your cancer journey. The Duke Cancer Center boutiques offer many services and resources to help you cope with the physical and body-image challenges cancer treatment brings.

Learning to Cope with Changes to Your Body Image

Cancer treatment can cause changes to your hair, your skin, your weight, your sexuality, and your overall well-being. Surgery can leave scars and change how your body looks. Medications can cause hair loss, swelling, and fluid retention.

Learning to cope with these changes and how to manage them can have positive effects on your mental health and your relationships with others.

Self-Image Consultants Can Help

Our expertly trained self-image consultants are available at our three boutiques and are an important part of your care team. They also offer private consultations to provide education and personalized support to address your concerns about hair loss and skin care, sexual health, and intimacy.
