Licensed, Trained Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians
Duke pharmacies are staffed by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, as well as support staff including cashiers. Our retail and specialty division pharmacists are graduates of accredited colleges of pharmacy, and most have graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. All are licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of North Carolina and have extensive knowledge of the full range of medications.
We Work as a Team with Your Providers
Our pharmacists work closely with your specialists to manage your medication needs. We also partner closely with clinical pharmacists who practice in Duke Health specialty clinics to ensure continuity and access to medications, especially those with high costs. Our systems are integrated with Duke’s electronic medical record system so we can communicate directly with providers about your medication needs.
We Provide Medication Education
Our pharmacists are available for consultation or medication counseling on prescription medications and over-the-counter products. We ensure you understand what the medicine is used for, the dosing instructions, possible side effects, and how to store the medication and dispose of it. If you have questions about your medications, you may talk to our pharmacists in person during normal business hours. They can also be reached by phone. No appointments are ever needed to speak to a pharmacist.
We Take Medication Safety Seriously
Our pharmacy teams use robust drug interaction software that checks for drug interactions among current and new medications. We work closely with you and your provider if any issues arise.
