Pre-Travel Consultation

When planning to travel outside the United States – especially to low- and middle- income countries – the more informed you are, the more likely you will be to reduce your risk of becoming sick during your trip.

During the pre-travel consultation, the travel medicine provider will review your itinerary, your medical conditions, and medication list. We can address how to prevent serious concerns such as tropical diseases. You’ll gain important information about:

  • Ways to minimize your risk of mosquito-borne illnesses
  • How to avoid traveler’s diarrhea
  • Safe food, drinking, and travel habits
  • Medications to manage common health problems

Our provider can also offer ways to prevent common conditions such as motion sickness, altitude sickness and how to reduce jet lag.

Vaccine Protection

Your pre-travel consultation will ensure you are aware of vaccine requirements in the countries to which you are traveling. The consultation may also include recommendations to update vaccines, such as Hepatitis A and B, as well as new vaccines to ensure you are protected against infections not frequently encountered in the United States. Vaccines can be given during the clinic visit.

Traveling with a Chronic Condition

If you have a chronic illness, disability, or a weakened immune system, the travel medicine provider can offer recommendations for traveling safely, storing prescription medications, and avoiding injury. The recommendations can be tailored to your health concerns.

Post-Travel Consultations

If you contract an infectious disease during your travels, the travel medicine clinic provider can evaluate, diagnose, and manage your condition after your return home. Our expert personalizes your care to reflect your health conditions and needs.

The consultation fee is $147 and vaccines are additional costs. These services are IRS-qualified medical expenses that are eligible for reimbursement from health services reimbursement accounts (eg.
