Services
The goal of our evaluations is to assess your child's problem-solving abilities, memory, attention, and visual-motor functioning. A session lasts between two-and-four hours with scheduled breaks. Nearly all evaluations are completed in one visit.
- If your child is nonverbal, we can still complete a series of tests to determine levels of cognitive function.
- Testing is only completed in English, so your child must be proficient. It is not required that parents or caregivers be fluent in English. Interpreters are available.
Results of our evaluation are sent to you within a month through My Duke Health (previously Duke MyChart). We recommend a follow-up appointment with our providers after you receive the results so our team can review them with you and discuss next steps.
Following your child’s evaluation, we’ll share the results with other providers in your child’s care team. Our findings help you and our team understand any impact that your child’s medical or neurological disorder may have on daily function and development. Results may also provide information to your child’s school for any development of educational plans, as well as eligibility for additional services to support learning.
Our Providers
Accepted Insurance
Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher. We will contact you regarding your coverage and patient liability. If you are uninsured, learn more about our financial assistance policy.
