Our Providers
Fetal Cardiology
We provide heart care even before birth with fetal cardiology services for women whose pregnancy is considered to be high risk or for whom concerns were identified by ultrasound.
Heart Disease Evaluation
We evaluate children with symptoms that could indicate heart disease, including murmurs, fainting, palpitations, chest pain, and difficulty with exercise. To learn more about your child’s heart, we administer electrocardiography (EKG), echocardiography, exercise/stress testing, blood work, and other diagnostic tests in our clinic.
Device Management
We monitor and manage children with pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), ventricular assist devices (VADs), and wearable heart and event monitors (for example, 24-hour Holter monitoring).
Sudden Death Review
We can also help provide answers following the unexplained death of a child or young adult. We perform testing to determine whether heart disease contributed to your child’s death and whether the same issue could affect other members of your family.
Ordering Advanced Testing and Procedures
More complex testing and cardiac procedures like catheterization or heart surgery are ordered and scheduled by our providers but are performed at Duke University Hospital.
Heart Surgery and Transplant Evaluations
We provide comprehensive evaluations for pediatric heart surgery and heart transplantation. We also treat the full spectrum of pediatric heart diseases including:
- Arrhythmias
- Cardiomyopathy
- Congenital heart defects, including hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), septal defects, and single ventricle defects
- Heart failure
- Pulmonary hypertension
In addition, we provide specialized care for children who have undergone the Fontan procedure -- the final surgery in a series of two or three that aims to repair certain congenital heart defects -- from nutrition to cardiology, hepatology, endocrinology, physical therapy, and beyond.
Accepted Insurance
Duke Health contracts with most major health insurance carriers and transplant networks, including the ones listed below. Before scheduling your appointment, we strongly recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the Duke Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any co-payments, co–insurances, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with Duke, your out of pocket liability may be higher. We will contact you regarding your coverage and patient liability. If you are uninsured, learn more about our financial assistance policy.
