My Locations
About Me
I see patients with a variety of gastrointestinal disorders, including acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, and abnormal imaging findings. I also perform a wide variety of procedures in my day-to-day practice, including diagnostic upper endoscopy, push enteroscopy and colonoscopy, and numerous therapeutic procedures. I have expertise in removing large pre-cancerous polyps through a technique called endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), and I have a particular interest in using technology to improve procedural outcomes. My goal is to listen to my patients, help interpret the scientific literature and other sources of information, make diagnoses, and come up with an individualized treatment plan. My hope is that each patient leaves the office with a better understanding of what is going on and what we are doing to address it.

Areas of Expertise
Ratings and Reviews
The ratings and reviews are based on patient responses to the overall provider rating question from the survey. The question reads: “Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst provider possible and 10 is the best provider possible, what number would you use to rate this provider?” Responses are converted to a 5-point rating system and applied consistently to all providers. Learn more about our survey process. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research focuses on using deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to help improve endoscopic procedures and clinical care. One major aspect of this research has been using a software during colonoscopy that helps endoscopists find pre-cancerous polyps that might otherwise be missed during procedures.

Dr. Brown is the best GI physician I have ever seen in >35 years of dealing with multiple complicated GI issues. I am so impressed with his knowledge and skill in diagnosing, treating and managing these complex GI disorders that I deal with daily. I feel better now than I have in over 7 years and can once again enjoy my life.
My appointment was the first with Dr. Glissen Brown. He was knowledgeable about my medical history was amazing. He dealt with my questions and concerns skillfully and with kindness.
Entire experience was outstanding!
It was a pleasure to meet and deal with Dr Brown.Very professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him as well as Duke to any of my family or close friends.
Everyone was exceptionally, caring, kind, and skilled. I was treated with respect and has all of my questions answered.
Loved the office staff. Could have laughed with them all day long.
Well satisfied
I felt like Dr. Glissen-Brown listened carefully to my account of past surgery and my concern about colon cancer in my family. He asked many pertinent questions to glean as much information as he could about my past experience and my health. I was very impressed with his expertise and manner.
