About Me

The practice of urology involves trying to help patients with a variety of very personal issues that have a tremendous impact on quality of life. I enjoy seeing patients with a wide range of urologic problems, with a particular interest in bladder cancer and other urologic malignancies. In addition to the academic setting, I enjoy working in the VA system treating our nation's veterans. I have been involved in basic laboratory research and numerous clinical trials over the years with an interest in advancing urologic care beyond the currently available treatments. I have had an interest in global health for many years and enjoy international medical education and health care.

Ratings and Reviews

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

My research interests have primarily been in the area of prostate and bladder malignancy, in all stages of disease including the development of cancer, progression to metastatic disease and the treatment of malignancy in animal models as well as human clinical trials. The primary goals are to better understand why cancer develops, how to possibly prevent or treat it with more effective therapy and better outcomes and with fewer side effects.
