About Me
I am a lung and critical care doctor at Duke Health. My area of focus is in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Early on in my medical training, patients impressed upon me that the feeling of being “short of breath” was one of the worse feelings in the world. As their lung doctor, having the opportunity to help improve their quality of life is tremendously fulfilling and rewarding. I enjoy the diversity among the patients I care for as COPD most commonly affects middle-to-older age adults from a variety of backgrounds. At Duke Health, we are able to offer complete care for patients with COPD through our multidisciplinary team of experts. These treatment approaches include pulmonary rehabilitation, lung transplant, and interventional pulmonary. I work with each of my patients to develop a personalized treatment plan aimed at improving their well-being and physical function leading toward improvement in their quality of life. Outside of medicine, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and spending time with my wife and two young children.

Ratings and Reviews
The ratings and reviews are based on patient responses to the overall provider rating question from the survey. The question reads: “Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst provider possible and 10 is the best provider possible, what number would you use to rate this provider?” Responses are converted to a 5-point rating system and applied consistently to all providers. Learn more about our survey process. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research is in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The focus of my research is studying pulmonary rehabilitation and novel treatments aimed at reducing the occurrence of acute exacerbations among patients with COPD. At Duke Health, we are able to offer interested patients the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of COPD research including observational registries and clinical trials investigating new potential treatments. I work with each interested patient individually to help them determine which study option may be the best for them.
