About Me
I grew up in a rural county in Kentucky, where it was often difficult to find a doctor—much less a specialist—to meet patients' needs. This experience inspired me to attend medical school and ultimately become a cancer surgeon. I love being a surgeon because it demands both mastery of medical knowledge and precision in surgical technique. As a cancer surgeon, I aim to know my patients as human beings first and patients second. As a mother, I understand that parenthood is one of the most crucial roles humans will ever play in another's life; however, I believe the role your medical team plays in your care is equally vital. It is my privilege to be part of your cancer care journey. I value transparent communication, shared decision-making, and building long-term relationships with my patients. When you meet our team in the clinic, our goal is to provide a surgical plan that is easy to understand and personalized to you and your family's needs.

Ratings and Reviews
The ratings and reviews are based on patient responses to the overall provider rating question from the survey. The question reads: “Using any number from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst provider possible and 10 is the best provider possible, what number would you use to rate this provider?” Responses are converted to a 5-point rating system and applied consistently to all providers. Learn more about our survey process. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research
My research interests are centered on the idea that all patients deserve access to high-quality, individualized cancer care. I primarily focus on healthcare disparities, differences in health outcomes impacted by factors such as where you live, the food you eat, and your home environment. Improving outcomes for patients undergoing liver and pancreas surgery is a particular passion of mine and forms the basis of my efforts to study how to make cancer surgery more predictable, transparent, and equitable.
