Announcements
Duke Fertility Center is closed on Thursday, December 25. This is due to Christmas.
Duke Fertility Center contracts with most major health insurance carriers. If we do not participate with your insurance carrier, you are responsible for obtaining reimbursement directly from your insurer. Payment is required at the time of each appointment.
Our Financial Coordinators Check Your Insurance Benefits
Insurance plans vary greatly and your specific plan may not have fertility-related benefits, even if we have a contract with your carrier. Our financial care coordinators check your insurance benefits before your first appointment. They will tell you how much the initial consultation will cost based on your insurance coverage.
After your first appointment, your financial care coordinator will check your insurance benefits again. They will send you an itemized list through My Duke Health detailing how much each recommended procedure and treatment will cost based on your insurance coverage. These quotes are valid for 90 days. Our finance department will handle prior authorizations if needed.
Understanding Your Insurance Benefits
While our financial coordinators verify coverage for new patients, we recommend you also verify your benefits and understand the details of your insurance plan.
Check your insurance coverage by calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. Here are some questions we recommend you ask:
- What fertility benefits are covered by my current insurance policy?
- If my insurance covers fertility services, do I meet the medical criteria for fertility services?
- Is there a limit to the number of attempts allowed for in vitro fertilization (IVF)?
- Is there a limit to the number of attempts allowed for artificial insemination (IUI)?
- If my policy does not cover fertility services, will office visits, labs, and testing be covered?
Your Employer May Offer Supplemental Insurance Through Progyny
Duke Fertility Center accepts Progyny’s fertility benefits. Progyny is a supplemental insurance plan specifically for fertility and family building. The coverage is available to employees of participating employers. Talk to your employer to see if you are enrolled or can enroll in this fertility-specific insurance coverage.
Our financial care coordinators cannot determine costs and coverage if you have Progyny insurance. Please contact Progyny directly at 888-461-5062 to determine the cost of treatments.
