ETS3: Study of Eyeglasses for Esotropia ("Crossed Eyes") - Clinical Trial
What is the Purpose of this Study?
Most children with esotropia need to wear glasses. Some doctors prescribe single-vision glasses (regular glasses), and some doctors prescribe bifocal glasses. However, we still do not have enough information to know which of these two types of glasses work better (or worse). We hope this study can help us figure out if one option is better than the other, or to help us understand which of the choices might be better for different kids.
Esotropia ("Crossed Eyes")
Who Can Participate in the Study?
Children ages 3-9 who:
- Are diagnosed with esotropia
- Do not wear contacts
- Are not currently being treated for amblyopia
For more information about who can join this study, please contact the study team at DEC-RA@duke.edu.
What is Involved?
If your child chooses to join this study, they will:
- Get a random assignment (like a coin flip) to wear either bifocal glasses or regular glasses
- Visit our clinic 10 times over the course of about 3 years
There will be vision and eye tests during the study visits.
