About Me

I grew up in Durham and I am extremely proud to work here at Duke. All of my family members still call the Bull City home. Most of my education was completed in Durham, except for four years I spent down the road in Chapel Hill. I played football there and developed an interest in orthopaedic surgery that led me home. I specialize in hip and knee replacement and am very fortunate to do so. We have the ability to help so many people with these operations. It is extremely rewarding to help someone get back to doing the things they want to do with their life. Duke is the kind of place where you are challenged by the most difficult cases weekly and I appreciate that fact. We have great doctors in every field and we work as a team on every aspect of a patient's care once they enter the hospital.

Ratings and Reviews

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to care provider related questions on our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Learn more about our survey process. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. Patients who see some types of providers receive a different version of the patient satisfaction survey. Those results are not available on DukeHealth.org.

Clinical Focus and Research

My Research Interests

I do a lot of research focusing on how patients do after hip and knee replacement procedures. We are very lucky to be able to perform these operations that are usually so successful. Despite this high likelihood of success, we know there are ways to do these operations, and care for patients, even better. That is why our research focuses on so many different aspects of the care we deliver. We look at implant design, new surgical approaches, new implant and instrument technology, rapid patient recovery and accelerated discharge, different pain management techniques, and even cost effectiveness. The research we do allows to us be on the cutting edge of hip and knee replacement, but it also allows us to evaluate the care we deliver as we strive for even better results for patients. We also remain dedicated to the central mission of Duke Orthopaedics, which is to eventually find the cure for arthritis. There will be a day where the treatment we deliver will be a biological one and not reliant on metal, ceramic, and plastic.
